Dr. Wells is a lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, growing up in northwest Oregon, and attending both parents’ alma mater at Oregon State University. Dr. Wells received his medical degree, Summa Cum Laude from Oregon Health and Science University.  He completed his Ophthalmology residency as well as his fellowship in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous at the University of Washington, where he stayed on the faculty for 5 years. He has co-authored more than 30 scientific publications and has been site principal investigator for the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study as well as the pivotal macular degeneration studies ANCHOR and MARINA.  As principal investigator, with his colleagues at Vitreoretinal Associates, he has conducted more than ten Phase III Clinical Trials of new devices and medications for age-related macular degeneration, retinal blood vessel diseases and retinal detachment.

Dr. Wells is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a past president of the Washington State Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.  Practice locations include Seattle, Eastside, and Skagit County.

Dr. Wells is committed to providing compassionate care guided by scientific evidence, as well as individual needs.

Dr. Wells and his wife Paula have raised three children, and are currently responsible for two dogs and a cat. Both Dr. Wells and Paula are avid tennis players and hikers.
